So here we are. You met this lovely new person off of your favorite dating app and now you’re swooning. They’ve said all the right things, your messages are lovely, and you’re getting excited to meet this person IN person. BUT! That little voice in the back of your head says “But wait, I’m still not supposed to meet strangers off the internet. What’s this persons actual deal?”
You try to do some recon on the internet. You type in say… “Julie + Boston”. You realize the internet gives you 29,600,000 results. Think about that number and look at what Google comes up with:
Yeah. Good luck trying to find Julie from Boston.
You try a few other ways to find the person you’re going out with and then you ultimately give up. You spend time making plans, getting ready, spend money on transportation then drinks, and at the end of the night you realize that if you had found “Julie”, you would’ve found out she was a bank robber out on bail awaiting felony charges. Oh yanno, some other nonsense. Sex offender, big arrests, married idiots, pregnant women, etc.
Online dating has become such a dumpster fire these days that it’s a good idea to do your recon and make sure there’s no real red flags. BUT! How do you do that?
If you’re sleuthy you’ll go down the rabbit hole and spend your time creeping on your new date. Thank you for watching out for yourself. If you’re not tech savvy there’s no real way to figure out who this dude is unless you have a sleuthy friend. Use your friend and do your due diligence. All online dating sites say the same thing.

Yeah, they don’t know who is on their site and they put the responsibility back on you. And I’m not okay with that. Please follow the guidelines about getting to know the other person, meeting in public, telling friends of your plans, transporting yourself, and saying sober. Also, figure out what this persons online presence is and make sure there’s no weird red flags.
If you don’t actually know how to find the person you’re meeting off the internet with just a first name and phone number then we’re here. We’ll do this for less than the first round of drinks and in less than 24 hours.
