As a Boston based and woman founded startup that is focused on online dating safety, I brought Aste to the world because I personally know how scary it can be navigating the apps. I was born, raised and have only ever called Massachusetts my home and I’m proud to be from here… but damn, this is a scary place to date. I guess I shouldn’t be too shocked though, I mean I did almost date a bank robber.
Romance Scammers
I’ve written about romance scammers many times on the blog and I’ve spent a lot of time at Aste researching scammers and helping clients know the signs that they may be dealing with a catfish. In 2019, the FBI reported that $475,014,032 was lost from Confidence Fraud/Romance Scams – and that’s ONLY what’s being reported, and it’s only ONE YEAR.
Now you might think that you’re smarter than the average bear, but it turns out a LOT of smart people are the ones that get scammed because these scammers have a method on exactly how to get money out of the unsuspecting.
So, though they haven’t asked you for money *yet* – if that little gut feeling tells you this might be too good to be true, you can always have us give your new match a look and make sure everything matches up.
The Best and Worst States To Date In
I’m not too surprised that Maine comes in as the best state to date in, but maybe that’s because I’m biased towards all the memories of lobster I’ve eaten in Maine over the years. The record-low rates for cybercrimes and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) make Maine a very friendly state to online date in.
I’m also not too surprised that Alaska comes in last as the worst state for online dating, but again, maybe that’s because I know the men/women ratio is 111:100 – and there’s a lot of bears. As a woman, both of those things are scary.
Your State
We’ve been researching your dates for a few years now and there’s some very common themes. Illinois, Florida, and California all seem to pop up a lot in our searches and also tend to come back with some shady activity on your dates. But I’m sure I could tell you a red flag story from each and every state out there – you keep us very busy!

In Conclusion
I started this company of online investigators – aka The Dating Detectives – so we can give you the jump on what a person may be hiding from their online dating profile to help you date safer in whatever state you may live in.
We deliver a persons digital footprint to help you vet and verify your new date (like their Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Amazon Wishlist, Pinterest, (etc.) accounts). We go to the end of the internet to track down someone’s entire electronic footprint and give you a detailed report including red flags within their social media profiles, blogs, photos, etc. for only $29.99. So while the dating sites don’t care, we’re helping you get one more step closer to safety (and to avoid future heartache). For the price of the first round of drinks or an Uber to and from the date? I’d say that’s worth some peace of mind.
