DRUMROLL PLEASE…..
The short answer is: NONE OF THE DATING SITES ARE SAFE… and 100% of them could be extremely dangerous. Here’s how and why you need to know if an online dating site is safe.
With over 45+ million people online dating, each and every dating site promises you an easy and safe way to meet your soulmate. However, if you read the safety pages on Match, OkCupid, Tinder, eHarmony, CMB, Hinge, etc., all of them will tell you that none of those people are vetted or verified, none have been given a background check – never mind a simple ID check, and that you have to do your own due diligence before meeting anyone you meet on their site.
ONLINE DATING STATS
Here’s some online dating scary stats:
10% of sex offenders use online dating sites
51% of online daters are already in a relationship
12% of online daters are married
10% of members on free dating websites are scammers
81% of people lie on their online dating profile
And in these numbers… far too many of the people out there could be charitably considered a psychopath, and who wants to take that risk?
So even though I personally met my fiancé on an online dating site, these are the real stats you’re up against. I was also dating for the better part of the last decade and when I tell you I feel like I went on 9,734 dates from 2013-2018, there’s a chance that number is spot on.
THE ONLINE DATING HORROR STORY
My company, Aste, was founded after I found myself only a few days away from a first date with an alleged bank robber who was awaiting trial. It bothered me so much that dating sites had no idea who I was meeting and could let anyone sign up and omit anything they wanted on their profile. I was sick and tired of meeting men who were lying to me about a felony or a wife or their age or their living situation. So I thought to myself “I wish I could hire someone on the cheap to look up this new person I met online….” and when I didn’t find a solution, I created one for the world. And here we are… finding all sorts of things you want to know about before a first date, before a third date, before moving in together, or even before getting married.
